Electrochemistry and electrogenerated chemiluminescence with a single faradaic electrode.
We describe an electrochemical cell containing a single faradic electrode (a Pt ultramicroelectrode) and a blocked (polarized) electrode (Si with an insulating SiO2 film) that served as a capacitive counter electrode. When a bias was applied between the two electrodes, a current was observed from a faradic process at Pt and a capacitive current at the blocking electrode. A steady charging curre...
متن کاملElectrically driven flow near a colloidal particle close to an electrode with a Faradaic current.
To elucidate the nature of processes involved in electrically driven particle aggregation in steady fields, flows near a charged spherical colloidal particle next to an electrode were studied. Electrical body forces in diffuse layers near the electrode and the particle surface drive an axisymmetric flow with two components. One is electroosmotic flow (EOF) driven by the action of the applied fi...

متن کاملIs Molecular Rectification Caused by Asymmetric Electrode Couplings or by a Molecular Bias Drop?
We investigate possible causes of molecular rectification in electrode−molecule− electrode junctions. By using a simple model and simulated conductance histograms, we show that a molecular bias drop is responsible for rectification; conversely, asymmetric molecule−electrode couplings do not directly result in rectification. Instead, the degree of coupling (a)symmetry can be observed in the line...
متن کاملCurrent rectification in a single molecule diode: the role of electrode coupling.
We demonstrate large rectification ratios (> 100) in single-molecule junctions based on a metal-oxide cluster (polyoxometalate), using a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) both at ambient conditions and at low temperature. These rectification ratios are the largest ever observed in a single-molecule junction, and in addition these junctions sustain current densities larger than 10(5) A cm(-2)....
